About Me

13th February 2011 Off By Derek Buckthorpe

I am married with three grown-up children and a beautiful grand daughter and I live in the Cheshire village of Lymm. I gained an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering at Trent University, Nottingham and work as a Chartered Engineer on structural integrity of metal structures and materials for a consultancy company in the nearby village of Knutsford. I am a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and have published over fifty technical papers in National and International conferences.

I was licensed as a Reader in the Church of England in October 1997 and along with two other readers support the rector in the worship and work of the church of St. Mary the Virgin in Lymm. As well as preaching and taking services, I support the baptism visiting and chair the worship and Spirituality Committee. I have also served a three year term as church warden at St. Mary’s.

I am a member of the Mothers’ Union, for which my wife is the Great Budworth deanery leader within the Chester Diocese. My wife and I are both members of St. Mary’s church choir.

I support the community where I can and I have been a governor of my local primary school, former parent governor of Lymm high school and a member of the Really Useless theatre company who perform once a year either in pantomime or in the Lymm Festival. Other interests include gardening and reading.

I pray that although this web site is but a small contribution, God will use it to encourage you and others in the furthering of His message of love and service through Jesus Christ our Lord.
